Cedric Mullins and Gary Sanchez, both fresh off the injured list, hit back-to-back home runs in a three-run sixth inning as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels for the second straight day, winning 6-5 on Saturday.
Jordan Westburg drove in two runs and Adley Rutschman, Coby Mayo and Mullins all racked up two hits as eight Orioles had at least one hit.
Keegan Akin (2-0) was the winning pitcher, giving up one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Felix Bautista notched his 14th save by pitching the ninth, needing a nine-pitch effort to strike out Logan O’Hoppe for the final out.
Luis Rengifo drilled two home runs and Mike Trout also homered for Los Angeles, while Taylor Ward picked up three hits and an RBI. Angels starter Tyler Anderson (2-4) was charged with six runs on nine hits in five-plus innings. He walked four and struck out two.
The Orioles, who’ve won three of their past four games, got all three runs in the sixth before the first out was recorded. The rally began with Ramon Laureano’s walk before Mullins smacked his 11th homer and Sanchez followed with his first 2025 long ball in his first game since April 27.
Mullins returned Monday from a right hamstring strain, while Sanchez was activated Saturday after recovering from right wrist inflammation.
Baltimore starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano allowed three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked a pair.
Trout’s two-run homer went off the left field foul pole in the first inning. His first home run in nearly two weeks gave him 11 for the season.
The Orioles got one run in the bottom of the inning on Westburg’s groundout. They pulled even with two outs in the third on Gunnar Henderson’s single followed by Westburg’s go-ahead single.
Ward’s fifth-inning double tied the score in the fifth and Rengifo’s leadoff home run put the Angels ahead in the sixth. Rengifo’s eighth-inning solo blast off Andrew Kittredge was his third homer of the year.
