The San Francisco Giants activated third baseman Matt Chapman from the 10-day injured list Saturday and optioned infielder Tyler Fitzgerald to Triple-A Sacramento.
Chapman, 32, has been out since Aug. 13 with right hand inflammation after he batted .229 with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs in 96 games. Before landing on the IL, he had a rough 14-game stretch, batting .143 with no home runs and just two extra-base hits.
Over nine career seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2017-21), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23) and Giants, Chapman is a .240 hitter with 198 home runs and 548 RBIs in 1,118 games.
Fitzgerald, 27, was batting .217 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 72 games this season. In parts of three seasons for the Giants, he is batting .252 with 21 home runs and 53 RBIs across 178 games.
